The Australian state of New South Wales has greenlit an experiment in cashless gaming, partnering with industry leaders such as Aristocrat, eBet, IGT, and Light & Wonder. This large-scale initiative will involve close to 4,500 electronic gaming devices throughout the state.
Representing a substantial move towards updating gambling laws, the trial seeks to determine how this technology influences player conduct and aids in reducing gambling-related harm. The research will examine player interactions with the technology, assessing any shifts in gambling patterns, regularity, and potential downsides.
Reception has been overwhelmingly favorable, with a larger than expected number of locations and providers offering to take part. Major players Aristocrat, eBet, IGT, and Light & Wonder have been granted provisional approval and will enter the trial in the coming year, contingent upon fulfilling strict cybersecurity standards.
This endeavor follows a smaller test program initiated last October, which saw the deployment of Aristocrat Gaming’s technology in 36 machines within Newcastle. The broadened trial will encompass 28 venues, including both clubs and hotels of varying scales, guaranteeing a thorough comprehension of the technology’s influence across the gambling sector.
Jinesh Patel, the top dog at GTA, emphasized their dedication to fair competition within the Australian game technology sector. He acknowledged that navigating the complexities of regulations was a pricey obstacle, but they were fully invested, collaborating closely with the New South Wales administration to forge a path ahead.
He was visibly pleased that GTA was selected to contribute their knowledge to this pioneering endeavor – the inaugural program of its nature in Australia.
