Representatives of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) are expressing relief following the UK’s decision to relax travel limitations. The BGC advocates for numerous businesses across the UK, encompassing casinos, wagering establishments, and bingo venues, all of which experienced significant challenges due to the pandemic.
BGC Chief Brigid Simmonds praised the government’s action, characterizing it as a “substantial lift” for casinos in London, especially. She stressed that casinos are prepared to receive guests again and contribute to the UK’s economic rebound.
Simmonds, who also holds a position on the board of VisitBritain, the country’s tourism agency, has directly witnessed the severe consequences of the pandemic on the travel sector. She pointed out that physical gaming enterprises were not exempt from the decline.
“From the time I assumed the role of BGC Chair, I have observed the effects of travel limitations and lockdowns on a significant number of our members, whether in regions dependent on domestic and business travelers or those heavily reliant on international guests,” Simmonds stated. “Casinos, wagering shops, and bingo halls have all shared in the hardship.”
Currently, with the easing of restrictions, a feeling of hopefulness prevails. “We enthusiastically embrace the Ministers’ decision to further relax travel limitations to aid in the recovery of tourism,” Simmonds concluded.
Simmonds remarks mirrored previous backing from the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) for the UK administration’s post-COVID economic revival strategy.
On the 21st of March, BGC leader Michael Dugher stated that the organization’s constituents would back the Exchequer’s efforts to rebuild public funds.
