New South Wales Approves Digital Payment Gambling Trial

The state of New South Wales has greenlit a trial for digital payment gambling that will include prominent gaming sector entities such as Aristocrat, eBet, IGT, and Light & Wonder. This test will cover a substantial portion of the state’s slot machines, nearly 4,500 in all.

This determination follows a suggestion from the independent Gaming Reform Panel to investigate cashless gaming technology. The experiment seeks to comprehend how this technology influences player conduct, including any shifts in wagering patterns, the duration and funds expended, and the possibility of minimizing harm.

The reaction from both gaming suppliers and locations has been overwhelmingly favorable, with a larger than anticipated number expressing interest in taking part. Aristocrat, eBet, IGT, and Light & Wonder have received provisional authorization to engage in the trial next year, contingent on their compliance with rigorous cybersecurity measures.

This trial succeeds a more limited pilot program initiated last October at Wests Newcastle, employing technology created by Aristocrat Gaming. The present trial will incorporate a diverse selection of 28 venues, spanning both clubs and hotels of varying scales, guaranteeing a thorough comprehension of the technology’s influence across the gambling sphere.

The Chief Executive of the Australian Gaming Technology Association (AGTA), Jinesh Patel, conveyed the group’s dedication to cultivating a flourishing and balanced gaming tech industry in Australia. He recognized the intricate nature and financial burden of the recent pilot program but stressed their resolve to identify a practical way ahead in close partnership with the New South Wales administration.

Furthermore, Patel underscored the AGTA’s satisfaction in backing the New South Wales specialist group, tasked with supervising the effectiveness of this innovative, state-level experiment, a pioneering endeavor for the nation.
