They expressed pride in the exceptional standards of care afforded to these animals, both throughout and following their racing careers. Over the past two decades, the BHA has allocated substantial funding towards research and education to continuously enhance horse welfare. This year at Cheltenham, a dedicated team of veterinarians, nurses, equine ambulances, and seasoned handlers stand ready to deliver unparalleled care. Each horse undergoes a comprehensive veterinary examination before receiving clearance to race. The BHA maintains rigorous standards for horse welfare, establishing the protocols and guidelines that all participants in British horseracing are obligated to uphold.
Alongside the BHA’s endeavors, a specialized equine well-being council supervises 26 programs intended to enhance the lives of racing thoroughbreds. These programs, with 21 currently in progress, signify a combined investment of £5.5 million.
Upon the retirement of these equines, the Retraining of Racehorses organization (RoR) intervenes to offer pragmatic, enduring resolutions.
