The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has directed the prohibition of numerous foreign gambling and partner websites functioning unlawfully in Australia.
The ACMA has directed the prohibition of additional foreign and partner websites.
The ACMA stated that Golden Lady Casino, Casino4u, Spin Samurai, Axe Casino, Lucky Dreams, Comet Room, Paradiso Room, No Deposit Friend, No Deposit Bonus Blog, Casino-On-Line, Online Casino Australian, Casino Shortlist, Australia Casino and Aus Casinos are all in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Consequently, the ACMA has requested Australian internet service providers to restrict access to all of these websites.
The ACMA commenced issuing blocking requests in November 2019 and has since effectively blocked 375 websites that are alleged to be operating unlawfully in Australia.
Since the ACMA began enforcing new illegal foreign gambling regulations in 2017, over 150 illegal services have withdrawn from Australia.
“Website blocking provides a valuable opportunity to increase public awareness of illegal gambling services through reminder messages that appear when attempting to access the website,” the ACMA stated.
“The ACMA reminds consumers that even if a service seems legitimate, it may not have essential consumer protection measures.”
This indicates that Australians who utilize unauthorized gambling platforms are at risk of financial losses.
During the previous month, the ACMA issued its initial blocking directives against overseas lottery sites after it determined that We Love Lotto and Red Fox Lotto were both operating unlawfully in Australia.
Additionally, last month, the ACMA issued a formal caution to Tabcorp after it accepted online wagers on US collegiate basketball matches.
The ACMA scrutinized Tabcorp following the receipt of grievances and discovered that the company had accepted 37 wagers on the match on January 3rd of this year.
According to the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001, it is prohibited in Australia to place online bets on a match while the match is in progress; consequently, the ACMA ruled that Tabcorp had violated the law.
