STS: Polish Expansion Fuels 29% Profit Surge
In 2022, the Malta-based betting firm reported consolidated earnings of PLN 5.79 billion (GBP 108.5 million/EUR 123.5 million/USD 132.5 million), up 16.3% from PLN 4.98 billion in 2021. Within these earnings, STS’s net profit climbed by 29%, from PLN 1.31 billion to PLN 1.69 billion.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose to PLN 2.73 billion, up 26%. The EBITDA margin for 2022 was 41.2%, compared to 28.2% the previous year.

Total wagers placed on STS gaming products increased by 4.2% from PLN 44.9 billion in 2021 to PLN 46.8 billion in 2022. Despite the relatively modest rise, the number of active users grew by 13.0% from 693,000 to 783,000. The company reported 439,000 new registered users and 317,000 new first-time depositors. The company stated, “All operational data is at an all-time high.”

“We had a very successful year—we achieved the highest operational performance in the history of the group, which translated into highly satisfactory financial results,” said Mateusz Juroszek, CEO of STS Holding. “We will soon make a decision regarding dividends.”

Based on relevant regulations, we will be distributing the entirety of the earnings from STS Holding SA to investors. Due to the group’s organizational structure, we will be making two disbursements, similar to the previous year.

Market Departure
The operator stated that its 2022 financial performance demonstrated the “exceptionally high appeal” of the Polish gaming market. The company indicated its intention to make a significant adjustment to its operations in 2023.

This action, designed to enhance profitability, will result in the company withdrawing from the UK and Estonian markets to concentrate more on Poland, which accounts for a substantial portion of STS’s income.

“The objective this year is to concentrate on increasing effectiveness,” said Juroszek. “We will focus on Poland to enhance profitability and fully capitalize on the potential of this dynamic market. We will also implement cost-reduction measures and improve our offerings. We anticipate turnover, NGR, and EBITDA to be greater this year compared to the previous year.”

Final Quarter Outcomes
In the company’s final quarter results, it emphasized revenue of PLN 167 million, representing a 43% increase year-over-year. Net profit also saw a 290% year-over-year rise to PLN 58 million for the three-month period ending December 31. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter reached PLN 83 million, a 122% increase from the preceding period.

STS customers placed a total of PLN 1.38 billion in wagers during the final quarter, compared to PLN 1.22 billion reported by the company last year.

This indicates we have 542,000 active clients, 202,000 fresh registrations, and 154,000 initial depositors.
